  • Notes
    • Elizabeth Beekman was born about 1785-1790, daughter of Theophilus Beekman and Elizabeth Mathews. As a child she lived primarily in New York City, where her father Theophilus Beekman Sr served as an Alderman and Police Court Justice. It appears that the family may also have maintained a home near the town of Blooming Grove in Orange county New York.

In 1826 Elizabeth Beekman was married to James Henry, who hailed from New Haven Connecticut. There is some dispute as to whether the marriage took place in Connecticut, or at Trinity Church in New York City. Both locations are given in newspaper accounts. If Elizabeth Beekman?s estimated birth year is correct, then she would have been around age forty when she married James Henry. There is no evidence that they had children.

In 1834, Elizabeth Beekman Henry sold property in Orange County New York, related to her mother's estate:

Wood Land for Sale - The subscriber offers for sale a tract of Wood Land, containing 967 acres, being a part of the tract known by the name of the Forest of Dean, in the county of Orange, distant two or three miles from the landing at Fort Montgomery, formerly the property of the late widow Beekman . . . offered at auction at the Orange Hotel, in the town of Newburgh. For terms which will be reasonable, apply to George Zabriske, No 452 Washington Street, New York. Elizabeth Henry. 29 Nov 1834.
[source] New Telegraph (Newburgh New York) 8 January 1835.

There is a burial plaque for Elizabeth Beekman Henry at the New York City Cemetery, Saint Mark's Church-in-the-Bowery. It clearly reads, "Daughter of Theophilus Beekman and Elizabeth Mathews, Wife of James Henry." But, dates or other information are unreadable.
