- James Mathews Lamb was the son of James Lamb and Catalina Mathews, christened at St Mary's Church in Rye, Sussex county England. In 1809 he was married to Mary Rich, probably the daughter of Robert Rich and Sarah Bennett of Bermondsey, London England.
James Mathews Lamb and Mary Rich were the parents of seven identified children: Mary Anne Lamb (married Francis Henry Fenton); Robert Lamb (transported to New South Wales, Australia, married Mary Dryden or McLauren); Charles Lamb (died 1843 in Mangalore India); Henry Lamb (married Ann Cattarns Slaney); Sarah Lamb; Emma Lamb (married John Wheeler); and Margaret Elizabeth Lamb.
