Notes |
- William Cunningham Wylly was born 1792 in Nassau, Bahamas, the son of William Wylly and Matilda (or Martha) Mathews. He probably lived out his childhood at the Wylly family home outside of Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas; and was eventually sent to England for further education. No record has been found for an English education, but his older brother Thomas Brown Wylly was educated at Trinity College, Oxford. William C Wylly, like his oldest brother Alexander Campbell Wylly, joined the British Royal Navy, and was commissioned a Sea Officer (Lieutenant) in 1814.
In 1816, William C Wylly was wed to Mary Sophia Baylis, daughter of William Baylis and Ann Bell. Her father was Provost Marshall of New Providence, Bahamas for more than forty years, from 1787 until his death in 1826. William Wylly and Mary Baylis were the parents of a child, Sydney Cochrane Wylly who died in early childhood. It is unknown if they had other children.
