  • Notes
    • Elizabeth Brooks was probably born about 1802 in Orange county New York. She is named as a "daughter" in the 1816-1821 Will of Mary Mathews, but her parentage remains uncertain. In this database she is represented as the daughter of Mary Mathews and Jonathan Brooks, but that relationship is not firmly established. She is not mentioned in the 1811 Will of Jonathan Brooks. About 1825, Elizabeth Brooks was married to John Downs Mather, and they resided near Hamptonburgh in Orange county New York. Elizabeth Brooks and John Mather were the parents of five identified children -
Ellswoth B Mather, Fletcher M Mather, Hettie Mather (married Mister Morshead), Charles Mather, and Mary E Mather.
